Tom and I are sorta house hunting now. We have an idea of the type of house we want, and hope to afford. We just need to get more research done.
I’m actually pretty excited. It’s a big step, buying a house, but I’m psyched! It’ll be our first house. We’re not looking for anything fancy, just a couple of must-haves. Tom wants a finished basement and I want a beautiful kitchen preferably with an island. I think I do spend a good amount of my time at home in the kitchen, and since I’ve never had the luxury of a large kitchen growing up, it’s something I want now that I’ve grown up. Small kitchens are a hassle. Limited counter space, no room to move around. It just gets messy, and although I’ve had practice cooking in small kitchens, it’s not something I like.
Tom on the other hand…has a lot of stuff, and yeah he does need that finished basement so, he can have all his stuff in one place. I love him…I just DON’T love his things (I’m sure he hates my things too!) Cardboard cut-outs?? Alien heads? Weird little action figure things?? Lots and lots and LOTSSSSSSS of video games, consoles, etc from the early Nintendo to the current Xbox 360 and PS3 stuff..my husband is such an adorable nerd! So a finished basement is a wonderful idea. He can have all his things in one place and hopefully I don’t have to deal with them.
Anyways, Tom and I do hope we can find something soon. We’re tired of paying rent, and having a house will be fun. I just can’t wait to decorate the place! Hehe.
Speaking of houses…take a look at this house:
Located in the north of Spain, the Q House is a series of black volumes overlooking the landscape in a suburban context. By asensio_mah + J.M.Aguirre Aldaz.
It’s beautiful! And it’s in SPAIN! Ahhhh….to be able to afford this place would be very cool.

The house is a conscious exercise in developing an alternative domestic environment to the surrounding villas of the new suburban neighborhood. The solutions for the development so far have typically been compact villas located on abruptly leveled gardens, irrespective of the complex topographical condition of their sites…
The building is organized in three bands that are arranged around a central circulation core. These three bands maintain a prevailing orientation in the northeast-southwest direction to secure maximum daylight in every room. While the bands configure and organize the different rooms, the circulation core underpins a switchback pattern of shifting orientations with the gradual vertical movement through the house.
The house is clad in dark “composite†panels that have been customized with digital fabrication techniques. These customized panels are used to articulate sections of the house volume in order to introduce legibility to the overall form. These panels offer a range of different surface consistencies and patterns to the house that reflect the sites changing light conditions in multiple ways, producing an ever changing range of texture and tones.
